AMOSUN BAGS SDGS LEADERSHIP ACTION AWARD

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has been presented with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Leadership Action Award by the coalition of Non Governmental Organisations, Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity in Nigeria and the Right Monitoring Group.

Presenting the Award to the Governor at his office in Abeokuta, the spokesman of the groups, Comrade Olufemi Aduwo said, the Award was in recognition of his administration’s contributions to goal 13, 16 and 17 of the Millennium Development Goals, which includes; Climate Change, Peace and Justice, as well as partnership between the Private and Public Sectors.

Aduwo who applauded Governor Amosun’s efforts at transforming the State through the provision of infrastructure, said the groups had also nominated him for another award as a result of his commitment to protecting the environment.

Responding, the Governor said his administration was committed to the protection of the environment through continuous planting of trees, adding that the dedication to the tenets of the Sustainable Development Goals would enhance good governance.

He noted that, a special agency, Sustainable Development Goals, has been created, as a mark of commitment to the actualisation of the Goals, saying, “we are embarking on continuous planting of trees as a way of preserving our environment. We are already making efforts to orientate the younger generations through an initiative called, Green Empowerment for the Youth (GEFTY)’’.
