Rejected Car Gifts: Stop Portraying Yourselves As Economic Parasites, Tinubu-Shettima Youth Group Warns Ogun LG Chairmen

A group, Tinubu-Shetima Youth and Student Support Group, has lambasted the chairmen of local governments in Ogun State for allegedly rejecting the cars given to them by the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on account of being non-exotic.

The group, which made its position on the issue known through a statement signed by its national director of special duties, Comrade Ologbon Taiwo Dickson; the Ogun State coordinator, Comrade Odunuga Mobolaji Olufemi and the Ogun State secretary, Comrade Egberongbe Damilola Shakirudeen, said that the affected chairmen were behaving like economic parasites who see public office as a jackpot.

It said that it was unfortunate that the chairmen rejected the 20 units of Mikano 2022/2023 vehicles given out by the governor not because they had serious mechanical faults or were not road-worthy, but because of vanity.

It, therefore, called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to sanction them heavily in order to send a strong message to the public that the party does not condone indiscipline.

The statement said: “Public office is ordinarily about service to the people and, in this regard, public officers are expected to demonstrate patriotism, sensitivity to the plight of the populace, and patriotism at all times.

“Over time, however, the country has taken the wrong path by attaching excessive comfort and luxury to public office, with the effect that many public officers see themselves not as servants but as lords over the long-suffering populace.

“That explains why, in this case, local government chairmen who should have expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun went on an ego trip, asking for exotic vehicles before they could discharge the duties expected of them to the populace.

“By claiming that the cars were below their standards and not enough to compensate them for all they had done for the governor and his administration, the chairmen have portrayed the APC in bad light and suggested that public office is a ticket to luxury while the masses wallow in penury.

“They must learn to live by the government’s means.”
