LG Election: OGSIEC Continues Councilorship Screening Exercise As Election Day Approach

The screening exercise for Councillorship candidates for all political parties in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the State continued today with candidates from the Ogun East Senatorial Districts.

The exercise held at the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission’s Headquarters (OGSIEC) oke-ilewo Abeokuta was attended by the different political parties participating in the election.

Speaking during the screening, Commissioner Olatunji Akoni revealed that documents expected to be presented by candidstes for the screening includes; birth certificate, evidence of tax payment, Certificates from schools attended, letter of non-indebtedness from Banks or any other financial institution, mental stability, among others.

He charged the would-be Councillors to be of good conduct before, during and after the Local Government election, assuring that the Commission will continue to treat all candidates equally in its resolve to ensure credible elections.

Reacting, some Councillorship candidates including Mr.Awosanya Sikiru from Ikenne Local Government, Kehinde Samuel from Ogun Waterside and Basirat Lawal from Sagamu Local Government commended the Commission for the manner it handled the exercise, charging other contestants to provide all necessary documents required for them to be cleared.

He further stated that the screening continues tomorrow, Friday, June 11, 2021, with Councillorship candidates from Ogun West Senatorial Districts
