OGSIEC Harps On Neutrality, Screens Ogun West Councillorship Candidates.

Councillorship Candidates from the Ogun West Senatorial District were today screened by the Ogun Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) ahead of the 2021 Local Government Elections in the State.

Speaking during the screening at the Commission’s Headquarters, Oke-ilewo, Abeokuta, Commissioner Gbemi Onasanya from the Commission has charged them to be of good conduct before, during and after the election, assuring that OGSIEC would remain firm, fair, neutral and transparent.

She revealed that the Commission has given Councillorship Candidates across the different political parties, who could not be screened, owing to their inability to get their forms sworn until Tuesday 15th June, 2021, in line with its resolve to be even-handed.

She said “In view of the fact that some of the candidates across the different political parties could not swear to the oath, we have given them till next week. The exercise has been peaceful, smooth and orderly”.

Commenting on the exercise, Emmanuel Adeboye from Ado-Odo/ Ota and Laide Atinuke from Yewa South expressed satisfaction with the screening, promising to put all that was said to use in their quest to represent their people at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the commission through a press release has postponed the chairmanships candidates screening of all political parties to Tuesday 15th June 2021.

In his words,”in view of the Public Holiday on Monday, 14th June, 2021, in commemoration of June 12-Democracy Day, screening exercise for Chairmanship Candidates of all political parties participating in the forthcoming Local Government elections will now hold on Tuesday, 15th June 2021.

“Also, all Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates should report at the Commission’s Headquarters from 10:00 am for the screening, as the exercise will close on Tuesday, 15th June, 2021”. He said.
