Gov Abiodun To Construct 4,000 Housing Units, 236 PHCs In Second Term

Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed his administration’s resolve to construct no fewer than 4,000 housing units and 236 primary health centres across the state in the second term.

Abiodun who gave this disclosure while addressing members of the Ogun State Community Development Council and the Ogun State Cooperatives Federated Limited, who came to felicitate him on his victory at the just concluded governorship election, said the housing units and health care centres would be accessible and affordable for the people and residents of Ogun.

He assured that his administration would work towards fulfilling its electioneering promises before leaving office in 2027.

The governor’s words: ‘’Our affordable housing programme will continue. So far, we have constructed 1,700 houses already in Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ijebu -Ode and Ilaro. We are planning to construct 4,000 units before the end of our second term.

“Apart from housing, our administration will focus on the provision of essential public utilities such as electricity, potable water and construction of more roads. We have started the implementation of the electricity project with a pilot programme in Abeokuta. We will extend it to Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu; these areas will begin to enjoy 24 hours uninterrupted power supply.

“We will continue with our infrastructural development across the 20 Local Government Areas and ensure that the choice of infrastructure, especially on roads, comes from our people so that we remain inclusive and participatory in governance.

“We will continue with the rehabilitation, renovation and reconstruction of schools, both in the primary, junior and senior secondary schools and improve on the quality of our education to remain foremost”.

He further informed his visitors that he would not allow isolated situations of instances to demoralize or de-motivate his administration from reaching its set goal in the second term, noting “we have much achieved, nobody can take it from us and I will not allow anyone to make me feel demoralized by it because they are legacies that will remain in the sands of time forever.

“Can someone come and say that I did not build an airport or that I did not reconstruct Oba Erinwole Road or others too numerous to mention? That road, the previous administration refused to construct so that a particular individual could actually suffer. Can you imagine an administration refusing to reconstruct a road because it wants to punish a particular individual and by extension punishing a lot of people?

“We will continue to ensure that we leave up to our promises and remain focused so that by the time our tenure is over, the legacies we’ve made will continue to speak for us,” he added.

While maintaining that arrangements had been made to provide independently powered electricity to major towns and cities in the State, the governor said the plans would also see electricity from the national grid made available to smaller towns and villages to drive the industrial revolution of his administration.

He emphasized that the Kajola Dry Port project would be implemented in the Kajola Free Trade Zone, pointing out that once the port is completed and ready for use, cargo can be shipped directly to the state, thereby reducing demurrage and creating job opportunities for the people.

Abiodun, however, noted that the 7,000 members of the Ogun State Development Council and Cooperatives Federated Limited recently appointed by the government, were to bridge the gap between the government and the people by educating and sensitizing the people on government’s policies and programmes while bringing feedback from the people to the government.

He added that his administration would also focus more on youth development and job creation like it was done in the past, saying the state stadia are receiving facelift towards hosting the best National Sports Festival in the history of the festival.

In their respective remarks, the Chairman, Ogun State Cooperatives Federated Limited, Wasiu Olaleye and his counterpart in the Ogun State Community Development Council, Lucien Taiwo, thanked Governor Abiodun for appointing some of their members as Social Investment Assistants as well as the grants giving to some of the CDAs in the state.
