Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun Shuns Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary Prayers

…As SSG Takes Control Of Govt Activities

On every Sunday preceding the October 1 independence anniversary of the country, the Governor of Ogun State is expected to be at a Christian Thanksgiving service at Ake Centenary hall in Abeokuta, the state capital to commemorate the anniversary.

However, the tradition appeared to have been changed this year by the incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun of the state, who decided to stay in London, where he travelled to two weeks ago during which he paid a visit to a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources told Ogun News Express that the development is still a surprise to the residents of the state, especially as the Governor has allegedly handed over the governance of the state to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who represented the Governor at the church.

The service, Ogun News Express gathered, was uneventful as most Ogun government officials, who ought to be at the event, stayed away “for obvious reasons.”

They were said to have regarded the absence of the Governor as unusual, and we were told that they did not see reason they should be at the service, when the SSG would be standing in for the Governor.

According to them, there was no official information that the Governor would be away for so long “when there is much to do to move the state forward at a time it is bedevilled by many economic, social and health challenges occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.

“What should I go to do at the church service, when the Governor, the Deputy Governor and the Speaker of the House are all abroad at the same time.

“What is my business with the SSG, he is not my leader”, a top govt functionary told Ogun News Express where he was relaxing with some of his friends on Sunday.
