Anxiety In Ogun As Gov Dapo Abiodun Refuses To Appoint SSG, COS, CPS 6 Days After Swearing-In

There is a growing anxiety in Ogun State as the new Governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun has kept mum over the appointment of some key officers necessary to give his government a solid foundation.
It will be recalled that the people of the gateway state had gone into wild celebration after Mr. Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the March 9, 2019 governorship election in the state and defeated the godson of former governor Ibikunle Amosun, Mr. Abdulkadir Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
However, the people of the state are beginning to have a rethink as the Governor has not been able to take some steps necessary for a good start.
The action of the Iperu, Ogun State-born governor was compared to that of other new Governors in the South West, who have made some appointments within the last eight days.
Sources informed Ogun News Express (ONE) that Governor Abiodun ought to have hit the ground running by appointing the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (COS), Chief Press Secretary (CPS) amongst others.
According to them, it would be difficult for the Governor to operate effectively without these key officees that are needed to create a distinct direction for his government.
It was gathered that appointing a CPS, for instance, would have helped to clear the air on some of the policies taken by the government in the last eight days such as the sacking of all the Local Government chairmen in the state, reversing some appointments made by ex-governor Amosun such as the installation of obas and appointment of permanent secretaries.
Some of the people in the state, who spoke with ONE under anonymity stated that Governor Abiodun should learn from the mistakes of former governor Ibikunle Amosun and make policies that would gladden the hearts of the people.
“We expect Governor Dapo Abiodun to hit the ground running with some of these appointments. He should have followed the style of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who made some key appointments within four days.
“There is no denying the fact that Governor Dapo Abiodun is rhs choice of the people and we believe that he is competent enough for the job, but he needs to step up his acts. He should not waste time unnecessarily. Eight days is a lot in the life of a government,” said a source.
Some people within the corridors of power in the state informed us that Governor Abiodun was actually working on the appointments, but that he wanted to take his time, adding that he would do the best at the right time.
This was however, countered by a resident of the state, who gave his name is Isiaka Alamu, who said that the Governor ought to have worked on these shortly after he won election, and that this did not need any rocket science as he must have pencilled down the names of some of these people even during campaign after he emerged at the primaries of the party.
Alamu urged Governor Abiodun to be sensitive to the yearnings of the people “and do what we want because we have boasted that he would be a listening Governor unlike the immediate past Governor of the state, who became a tin god towards the tail end of his government.”
