Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, has become a notable figure in Nigerian politics, hailing from Yewa, Egbado, Ogun State.

Demonstrating a commitment to positively impact lives, he aligns with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and shares camaraderie with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Having started his political career as a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2003 from Alimosho Constituency 1, Senator Yayi has come a long way. He moved from the state Assembly to the Federal House of Representatives in 2011 from Alimosho Federal Constituency from where he was able to prove his mettle as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation.

Senator Adeola Olamilekan moved to the Senate in 2015 from Lagos West District and based on his performances, he was returned to the Senate from the district in 2019.

But by 2023, the chartered accountant-turned-politician felt it was time to go to his roots and he crossed to Ogun West from where he was returned to serve as senator.

Today, Yayi is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, where he has been showing that he is a round peg in a round hole.

Yayi’s philosophy is to make the people happy always, which was why his numerous empowerment programmes are compared to none both in Lagos and Ogun States.

The Senator also believes in taking care of students, the aged, widows and widowers, which account for several financial support he has been giving to these categories of people.

Yayi has also been credited with several community support programmes in Lagos and Ogun States, where he is using his personal resources to provide transformers, repair dilapidated roads, schools and provide furniture for the schools. He is also supportive to the health sector.

He regularly gives scholarship awards to indigents students in the two states and his humanitarian and philanthropic activities are for the records.

It is on record that Senator Olamilekan gave unprecedented cash grant of N25,000 to 5,000 market women in Ogun West for their trades. He paid the money directly to their bank accounts.

Senator Yayi has been painstaking in his plans and ambition to govern Ogun State with his initial plan to be Senator of Ogun West in 2015 having started the agitation in 2012.

His plans is now on track to become Governor as Senator representing Ogun West with unprecedented mega empowerment programmes and projects in all sectors and in all the five 5 local government areas in Ogun West.

Yayi is a man of ideas and compassion, no wonder the people of Yewa/Awori in Ogun West, where he hails from, are putting their weights behind him to emerge as their candidate for the Ogun State governorship position in 2027 after the incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun must have served out the second term allowed by the constitution of Nigeria.

For the people of Yewa/Awori, it is time for someone from Ogun West to emerge the Governor of Ogun State under a democratic setting as the office has always been rotating between Ogun Central and East since the advent of the current democratic dispensation.

They argued that in the second republic, the occupant of the office, the late Chief Bisi Onabanjo, was from Ijebu in Ogun State.

“It is now our turn, we cannot continue to be onlookers in Ogun State. It is the turn of Yewa/Awori to produce governor in Ogun State in 2027.

“However, amongst the people that have shown interest, Senator Yayi is our preferred candidate. He is the best man for the job. He has been touching several lives in Ogun State, even when he was serving in Lagos State.

“What else do we need in a man, Yayi is an all-rounder, he loves us and we love him. He didn’t limit his activities to Ogun West, he has touched lives all over the Gateway State for many years,” an Ota indigene, Alhaji Muiz Ojubanire said.

Alhaji Ojubanire then appealed to all the stakeholders in Ogun West and in the two other districts in the state to support Senator Yayi for the coveted office.

He urged them not to miss “this golden opportunity to have our man at the centre so that he can continue from where Governor Dapo Abiodun will stop in 2027.”

Also speaking, Mrs Elizabeth Adekunle from Sango Ota, said that all the women in the area want Senator Yayi as the next Governor of Ogun State.

The trader in clothing materials stressed that Senator Yayi is already made and that he would go into office to serve the people and not to enrich himself.

She said that the issues in Ogun State are better handled by a man, who she said knows the terrain and has the necessary connections to attract investment to the state.

“All the women are solidly behind Senator Adeola Olamilekan, Yayi. He has been there for us with his numerous financial supports and empowerment programmes. No one has beaten his records. We have to compensate him with the office. He deserves it in all ramifications.

“Yayi is the only one that can match any other aspirant at the party primary. If we want to succeed in Yewa/Awori on our ambition to produce the next Governor of the state, then let’s give it to Yayi,” she said.

Mrs Adekunle was corroborated by Mr Olaniyi John, a youth in the area.

Mr John also attested to the humanitarian gestures and competence of Senator Yayi, saying that Ogun State does not deserve less.

He said that for Yayi to have been around political offices for 20 years at a stretch, then there must be something special about him.

According to him, all those that think there is another option should conduct surveys on Senator Yayi in Lagos and Ogun States to find out what his admirers have been saying about him.

“It is either Yayi or nobody. We will not allow this opportunity slip us by. God has blessed us with a talented man that can turn things around in our state at this period.

“Of course, Governor Dapo Abiodun is doing his best, but we need someone that will take over from him after servin the eight years allowed by the constitution.

“In the spirit of fairness, it is the turn of Yewa/Awori to produce the next Governor of Ogun State. We have been patient enough and I can assure you that Senator Yayi would be the Governor of all,” he said.

It is definitely a matter of time before things would unfold and the people would know what next.

As the countdown to decisions and unfolding events progresses, the people anticipate whether Senator Yayi will indeed emerge as the historic leader poised to elevate Ogun State to new heights.
