Screening: Ogun Lawmakers Task Commissioner Nominees On Improved Service

Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly today screened nine out of the list of additional ten Commissioner nominees sent to it by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, challenging them to evolve strategies and leverage on the advantages offered by technology to address human challenges, especially insecurity, food deficit, transportation constraints and waste management.

The State lawmakers took turn to offer advice and interview the nominees during the screening chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Assemblymen requested that if confirmed and sworn-in by the Governor, the nominees should redouble their efforts at consolidating on the success recorded during the first term of Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in the State through the introduction of policies that would have direct impact on the people.

Calling for a more robust relationship with the State Assembly upon assumption of office, the lawmakers advised the nominees to ensure adequate deployment of technology to develop a comprehensive bio-data for motorcycle riders to aid the fight against crime and criminalities across the State.

They challenged the nominees on the need for strategies to ensure the cleanliness of major towns and cities in the State, adding that the State’s policy on waste to wealth creation programme must be vigorously pursued to create more employment opportunities for the teeming youth.

They further counseled the nominees on the need to establish more motor parks and garages to serve developing towns and communities, requesting the need for the procurement of additional swamp buggy to dredge rivers and waterways especially in flood prone areas to address incidents of flooding in the State.

Challenging the new Commissioner nominees to always give consideration to application of local contents, the Assemblymen also enjoined them to adopt technology in transportation management and agriculture to tap into the comparative advantage of the State being the industrial hub of the nation.

In their responses, the nominees including a former two-term member of the Assembly and a former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adijat Adeleye- Oladapo Mr. Sofela Adebola Emmanuel, Hon. Ilori-Oduntan Olufemi, Engr. Oluwagbenga Dairo, Hon. Bolu Owootomo, Mr. Oladimeji Oresanya, Hon. Balogun Ademola, Mr. Osunbiyi Tunde and Mr. Fagbayi Sesan who reeled out their credentials including biodata, educational qualifications and work experience amongst others assured of being committed to the ideals of the Building our Future Together Agenda of the current administration in the State.

They expressed their readiness to deploy their expertise towards tackling emerging issues confronting the people of the State, with emphasis on value addition in governance.
