Ex Reps Member, Abiodun Akinlade Joins Ogun West Senatorial Contest

.... Set To Tackle Senator Adeola Yayi

A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, who represented Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2015, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade is set to battle Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan aka Yayi for the Ogun West Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections.

Yayi, currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District in the red chamber, is said to have concluded plans to move to his home state of Ogun in the next dispensation to prepare way for his governorship ambition in 2027 after Governor Dapo Abiodun must have served for two terms.

It was gathered that Akinlade has been consulting with all the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the five Local Governments that make up the Senatorial District on his bid to move to the Senate in 2023.

Popularly called Baba Omokeke (father of young ones) due to his numerous youth empowerment and scholarship schemes, Akinlade served as the chairman of one of the most impactful and important committees of the Green Chamber, the Science and Technology Committee for almost 10 years.

We were reliably informed that Akinlade is loved as a man of the people, who has helped several people from the area into appointments in federal parastatals and agencies in his day as a lawmaker.

Akinlade, currently representing Ogun State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), is being awaited by many residents of the area, who believe that he is more of a grassroots politician, who is more connected to his people than “someone that is being imported from Lagos to unsettle the state.”

When we spoke with him two days ago, he said, “You should know me by now. I am not intimidated by anybody. This is the time to bring real development to our people of Yewa and Awori.

“We will get there InshaAllah. Our record of what we have done and still doing will speak for us.”

Akinlade added that he was not tired of using his office to benefit the people and that time has come for politicians to affect lives and ensure that the people are raised from poverty level to enjoy good things of life.

Apart form this, the politician promised to attract more developments to the five local governments that make up the area and ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy at this material time.

He however, appealed to his supporters to be calm and “let us go into the process one after the other as we are sure of victory at the end of the day.”
