Traditional Birth Attendants Tasked On Prevention Of Maternal Mortality.

 

Ogun State Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) has been tasked to work tirelessly to prevent pregnancy and child birth related complications

According to the Chairman of the State Alternate Medicine Board, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, made this challenge in Abeokuta, while declaring open the 2021 Refresher Courses for Mission Birth Attendants tagged; “Managing Complications During Labour and Child Delivery Current Trends”.

Olaleye stated that the high rate of mortality in the society could be prevented, if proper identification, management and referral of complications were addressed as and when due.

“You need to do more, now that the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun has given Birth Attendants and other Alternate Medicine Practitioners in the State the necessary support to ensure proper transformation and sanity in the system. It is expected that you give maximum support to the government by complementing its efforts through your registration and participation in available training and re-training programmes”, he said.

In her welcome address, the National President, Mission Birth Attendants, Mrs. Elizabeth Quadri applauded the government for the various feats recorded in the health sector, charging members who were yet to register their organisations to do so before the end of the year.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mrs. Abosede Olaleye, appreciated the Board for the regular orientation programmes organised for them, saying it had brought Alternate Medicine Practitioners closer to governments.
