Why Abiodun Akinlade Is Preferred For Ogun West Senatorial District In 2023

 

One man that is eminently qualified to represent the people of Ogun West Senatorial District from 2023 at the Nigerian senate is Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives from Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

Akinlade, who is vying for the seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has shown over the years that he understands the rules of the game and his pedigree shows that he would use the office to positively affect the lives of the people of the senatorial district at the red chamber, no wonder several people in the area have thrown their weight behind him.

“Akinlade has consulted widely and some opinion polls favour him as against some other people, who want to go into the office to serve selfish interests,” said a member of the APC in the area, who gave his name as Olu Adesegun.

Abiodun Akinlade’s working life started in 1993, when he was employed as account officer by Automania Nigeria Limited, the firm that pioneered Auto-Fair in Nigeria. Within seven years, Abiodun rose to become the General Manager of the company before resigning in 2002 to pursue his interest in politics. Akinlade moved to Sango /Ota in 1997, where he has established himself, set up a school and other businesses.

Since then, it has been no going back for this man of means and character. Akinlade was elected to represent Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives in 2003 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becoming one of the youngest members of the House from Ogun State.

He was re-elected in 2007 and 2011 from the same federal constituency. However, Akinlade has since moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and from 2015 to 2019, he was the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Nigerian House of Representatives, National Assembly.

From 2020 till date, Akinlade is the Federal Commissioner, representing Ogun State at the Federal Character Commission, Abuja.

For the records, Akinlade was Chairman, House Committee on Science and technology (2011-2015).

He was Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology (2007 to 2011). He was also Chairman, House Sub-Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) 2003 TO 2007.

He was Sub-Committee Chairman, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), member Constitution Review Committee and Vice Chairman, Executive Sub-Committee of the Constitution Review Committee.

Akinlade was Co-Chairman, Nigeria Constitution Review Committee, North West Zone amongst several others.

He also sponsored several bills, while in the House including:

1. Science and technology Development Trust Fund Bill

2. Construction and maintenance Bill, 2014 (HB. 742).

3. National Boundary Commission Act (Amendment) Bill, 2014, (HB 743).

4. National Peace Council Bill, 2014, (HB 744).

5. Chemical Waste Management Commission Bill, 2014, (HB 745).

6. Maritime Security Agency (Establishment etc.) Bill (HB, 746) amongst others.

Some of the landmark achievements of the politician included facilitation of employment for over 750 (seven hundred and fifty) graduates into several agencies of the Federal Government, the feat that has been acknowledged by all and sundry in Ogun State, which has earned him the sobriquet of Baba Omo Keekeke.

He also facilitated the establishment of a science park in Ogun State, located in Owode Yewa.

The park houses four Federal Government Agencies namely; National Bio-Technology Development Agency, Bio Resource Centre, Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Agro Processing Centre, National Board for Incubator Technology Centre and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure-Revenue Engineering Centre.

Akinlade facilitated the establishment of the Incubation Technology Centre at Odogbolu. For his passion in education and zeal for the development of his community, he established a private school, The Gem International School in Owode –Yewa and Sango in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government respectively.

Equally, he established Hon. Abiodun Akinlade Free ICT Training Centre in Owode and Idiroko, where over 6,000 people have been trained, while he has also been giving scholarship awards to indigent students.

On a constant basis, Akinlade has been empowering youth, women, traders and transporters.

In 2018, Akinlade served as State Deputy Director General of the Campaign Organisation of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s 2019 Gubernatorial Election.

Akinlade’s performance is not limited to Ogun West as other parts of Ogun State have also benefitted from his wonderful soul. He was decorated as Vice Patron of the most prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club for his numerous contributions to the Club.

Others that have benefitted from the magnanimity of Hon. Aiodun Akinlade are the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Incubation Technology Centre, Abeokuta, Incubation Technology Centre, Odogbolu, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, NUJ, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State chapter, amongst others.

Abiodun Akinlade is the Asiwaju of Owode Yewa and the Baba Adinni of Yewaland apart from other honours.
