Ogun Assembly Appeals To Tertiary Institutions To Reduce Tuition Fees

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has appealed to State-owned tertiary institutions to reconsider the plight of parents, especially the indigent students by further reviewing downward, the recently hiked tuition fees.

Oluomo disclosed this while responding to the submission of the Minority Leader and member representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Adeleye who raised the issue under Personal Explanation during a planary session held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Acknowledging the adverse effects of the economic challenges being faced by parents, the Speaker noted that it was important for the Heads of the tertiary institutions to show more compassion and empathy by allowing the new fees wear human face so as not to put the students on the disadvantage.

He explained that though the institutions might have the compelling need to increase their fees to meet their pressing needs in view of the high rate of inflation but the fees should be affordable.

Earlier in his presentation, Hon. Adeleye had reported the recent protest by the students of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) following the announcement of increment of school fees by the management, pleading that the Assembly wade into the matter with a view to ensuring a reduction of the hiked fees.
