Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun Freezes Accounts of Local Governments

Barely 24 hours after he assumed duty as the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has frozen the bank accounts of all the local governments in the state.
This directive was contained in a statement signed and released by the Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Abeokuta, Dr. Olabimtan R.A.M.
The statement, dated Thursday 30th May, 2019 was entitled; “Placing of Embargo On All Accounts of Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas.”
Olabimtan said in the statement that Governor Dapo Abiodum directed that all heads of the local governments and LCDAs should be informed that an embargo had been placed on all the bank accounts of all Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas in the state with effect from Thursday 30th May, 2019.
It was added in the statement that there should be no cash payment of any sort.
“I must also emphasise that there should be no attempt by any Head of Local Government Administration, Treasurer or Director, General Services and Administration to backdate any cheque/cash payment because bank statements of your accounts and payment vouchers will still be required,” the statement read.
All Heads of Local Government Administration, as the Chief Accounting Officers, were directed to ensure compliance with the directive.
