Matters Arising: Brewing Storm In A Teacup! By Chief Bolarinwa Omololu

Matters Arising.

BREWING STORM IN A TEACUP.

This is indeed not the best of times for politics in the land as presently the polity is going through a lot of challenges most notable is the economic hardship felt by Nigerians as the inflation rate has galloped to its highest in two decades and untold gruellsome negative impact this is having on the people somewhat due to the removal of subsidy which has caused a chain reaction in the rising costs of all commodities and the inability to reconcile reality with facts as survival seems to be the benchmark against good living standards.
Against this backdrop we feel it is most insensitive for any individual to start making statement on the future of Ogun State political trajectory for 2027 when even the present government is just six months in and struggling to win the trust of the people against the background of good governance and the aforementioned facts.
Some days ago the senate president Godswill Akpabio as the chairman of the Yewa Day Celebration in the presence of the governor, traditional rulers and about 65 other senators proclaimed that the Yewa zone should throw their weight behind the ambition of Senator Olamilekan Adeola aka ‘Yayi’ which fundamentally he has a right to voice a personal opinion but announcing such at that auspicious ceremony was short of a gross insult that smirks of desperation in all ramifications. A lot of the dignitaries at the occasion were clearly irritated by this statement when the zone mentioned is grovelling with underdevelopment and has the statistics of the worst roads in Ogun State and most underdeveloped although it harbors status of the most industrialized zone in Ogun State, the SouthWest and one of the foremost in the country.
Senator Akpabio erroneously mentioned in that moment that Senator Adeola had done a lot of development for the zone and thus should be supported by all and sundry! This is not only a fallacy but a blatant lie as we know the antecedent of the subject matter as he had plied his politics in Lagos all the while and only been politically gravitated to employing ‘stomach infrastructure’ amongst a select few and key individuals to swoon votes for his ambition to be a senator which he presently occupies to the consternation of many.
I will not regale the people with those that were gainfully bankrolled to play the hatchet job of installing an individual against creating a level playing field for true champions of the people from Yewaland and indeed the Ogun West zone.
Instructively Senator Akpabio regaled the zone on why the zone that has not produced a governor since the creation of the state forty-seven years ago but I ask where was the voice of the present senate president when the true bloods of Yewaland under the aegis of the foremost Yewa Think Tank which my late father Chief Zacheauss Oluyemi Omololu, the likes of Professor Asiwaju, Dr. S. A. J. Ibikunle, Mrs. Odebiyi (wife of the pioneer Senator in the west, Senator Odebiyi), Deacon Poju Adeyemi, Chief Ajiboye, Professor Biyi Afonja, Dr. Dapo Afonja, Professor Olabimtan, Dr. Otegbeye and other illustrious sons from the Yewa stock who started this emancipation eon ages ago? Is it now that he finds a friend in an individual to now assault our sensibilities by pursuing the uncanny agenda for 2027 in 2023!
The state government from body language and hushed tones is clearly embarrassed and gumped by the audacity of the desperation to create an unfounded recall which seems like reaping from where it has not sown. I know when the time comes the hatchet caucus that is drumming the inordinate ambition of one individual will swallow the humble pie when they understand why they say Ogun State plays the most dynamic politics and should not be surprised by the result at the end of the day.
I believe justice and fairness will guide our choice as we originally that have played as professionals in politics to understand the ropes of the pendulum and where it will swing nigh that time but most auspicious is Yewa will remove that toga of disunity and allow Meritocracy, Pragmatism and Justice to guide the trajectory of our electoral ballistics.
Let all the trumpeters of stomach infrastructure sheate their swords for now and allow the present government that just won validation at the Law Courts to settle and tactfully tackle the myriad of problems dogging Ogun West and the whole Ogun State before climbing a mirage hill to shout wolf where there is none. The people will speak at the appointed time and I dare say it will be in unison… so help us God.
