Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly today concluded their visit to the traditional council in the State with a homage to the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle at his Palace in Ilaro.
Leading the State lawmakers to the traditional council, the Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide said that the State lawmakers being the true representatives of the people required the synergy and support of the traditional rulers to serve the people better.
According to the Speaker, since the State lawmakers changed their leadership late January, 2024 the members decided to embark on the familiarisation visit to all the Paramount rulers to tap from their wealth of experience so as to have closer ties with their constituents for quality representation.
Earlier in her remarks, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi lauded the Paramount Ruler for his steadfastness and resilience in serving the people, saying his resolve to construct female hostel containing 20 self- contained rooms and another 10 – room male hostel for students of the College of Nursing Sciences in Ilaro were worthy of commendation.
The Deputy Speaker added that Oba Olugbenle extended same laudable gesture to the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, where he had community demand projects alongside the construction and renovation of some blocks of classrooms at the Technical College, Ayetoro.
Responding, Oba Olugbenle commended the State lawmakers for their initiative in according due recognition to the traditional institution, soliciting their support in giving specific role to the traditional institution in the country.
According to the Paramount ruler, crisis resolution role alone being payed by the traditional rulers had helped reduced tremendously the volume of cases that would had ordinarily been a burden to the various courts.
He equally lauded them for the passage of the State Obas and Chiefs law, requesting some supplement to the law to boost the disciplinary functions of the traditional institution.
