Ogun West Senatorial Seat: Akin Odunsi Dumps Akinlade For Yayi

Senator Akin Odunsi, who represented Ogun West Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has since become a strong factor in deciding who gets what in the district under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections.

Reports reaching this medium indicated that Odunsi, who was hitherto rooting for Hon. Abiodun Isiaka Akinlade, a former member of the House of Representatives from Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, for Ogun West Senatorial Seat, has switched his support to Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan aka Yayi for the office.

Recall that Yewa, Ogun State-born Yayi is currently representing Lagos West in the red chamber, but he has decided to move to his home state for the 2023 general elections and represent Ogun West in the red chamber.

Sources revealed that Odunsi, a successful businessman and owner of Rosabel Advertising, once toyed with the idea of even taking Yayi to court to challenge his decision to move from Lagos to Ogun as he was solidly behind Akinlade’s candidature.

But we were informed that the chemistry binding Odunsi and Akinlade, who is currently representing Ogun State in the Federal Character Commission (FCC), broke after a recent visit of Yayi to the top politician in his residence in Ota, Ogun State.

“Since then, Odunsi saw reasons he should switch his support to Yayi, who he is convinced has better opportunities and is more qualified to take Ogun West to the next level as a Senator.

“Yayi made him understand that his ambition was not selfish and that his movement from Lagos to Ogun was for the purposes of making life meaningful for his people as he has done for the people of Lagos State,” a source told us.

Those who know about the meeting said that Odunsi was initially reluctant, but that he capitulated, when he heard of some major achievements of Yayi as a Senator from Lagos West with the belief that such would be replicated in Ogun West from 2023.

As it is now, sources revealed that the coast is getting clearer for Yayi and that “others would have to wait for another time as the song in the mouth of most people in Ogun West now is; Yayi for senate,”
