By Habeebat Ajayi
Over Five hundred women were empowered today by  Honourable Lanre Edun, the representative of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 9th House of Representatives through skill  acquisition Programs in the State.
Representing him at the annual empowerment, Mrs Adebola Sunday expressed her satisfaction as those materials met their targets. The material distributed includes: kerosene, charcoal, wheelchair, noodles, drinks amongst other.
In her words, “We are here for women empowerment , this is not our first empowerment. but this year’s own is fantastic because it goes a long way to help our people.
“The materials were  given based on what they are selling as they demanded for it and says enough of given them money and we picked the beneficiaries across Abeokuta South, from ward 1 to ward 15”.
In his submission, the former vice Chairman of Abeokuta South LG, Mr T.O Shoremekun appreciated the organizer and urged the youths to engage in politics.
“This is not the  first of its kind, but this year’s own is very fantastic. I have to thank God for him that he’s doing well, the youth should try to get empowered and join politics at all cost, by doing that, they will have the chance in policy making.
“There’s no gain in hoodlum and rascality, I urged all youths to shun violence and get something doing.”
One of the Constituency leaders in All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Ebenezer Olufunmilayo described the program as a fulfillment of Hon. Lanre’s promises in engaging and empowering the women.
“Indeed, this is fantastic, one of his  promises before the election, to empower and enhance people to start business from somewhere or to serve as an additional to the ones they have gotten and is left for them to improve on it, You don’t start climbing a house from the top, more so, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
“You can see them under the sun, because  they are happy which will eventually translate to loyalty.
This is the fall out of democracy that the people worked for. One might look around and say what are these items, but it’s a lot and the people are happy with it.”
Furthermore, he enjoined all politicians to have their people at heart.
“Also other politicians and electorate should take a cue on this, and take a look back at those who voted them in. There’s nothing too small, we know what Nigeria is going through and if somebody can dish out all these things, haa! its a lot, he wants to raise the morale of the people from the slum to the living standard and I know they will be praying for him.”
Speaking with the beneficiaries, Mrs Bilikisu Akanni appreciated and thanked the organizer, promising to use the materials judiciously.
